Ceiling Partially Collapses At Stamford Train Station: Official

The incident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The cause of the collapse is under investigation.

STAMFORD, CT — A section of ceiling at the Stamford Train Station partially collapsed early Wednesday evening, according to an update from Mayor Caroline Simmons' office.

At 5:23 p.m., Stamford 911 dispatch received multiple calls regarding the collapse, which occurred near an escalator that is currently being replaced by the Connecticut State Department of Transportation, said spokesperson Aaron Miller in a news release.

One person sustained minor injuries unrelated to the collapse, and they were taken to Stamford Hospital.

Station Place between Washington Boulevard and Atlantic Street was closed for about two hours before it reopened around 7:30 p.m.

As of 8:15 p.m., officials from the Stamford Building Department, Fire Marshal's Office and first responders were on the scene, Miller said, noting that they've been in contact with CT-DOT and building officials.

The Stamford Train Station is property of the state, and it is in their jurisdiction to determine the cause of this incident, according to Miller.

Stamford building officials and the Stamford Fire Department will work closely with state officials to determine a cause, Miller noted.

Train operations were not impacted by the collapse.
