Fire Breaks Out On Top Of Elevator At Stamford Town Center: SFD

The Stamford Fire Department responded to a fire at the Stamford Town Center Tuesday night.

STAMFORD, CT — A small fire broke out on top of an elevator at the Stamford Town Center on Tuesday night, according to the Stamford Fire Department. No injuries were reported.

Units responded to the mall at approximately 8:09 p.m. and found a small fire on top of an elevator near the Tresser Boulevard entrance, fire officials said in a news release.

A mechanic who was working on the elevator just prior to the fire being reported was able to use a fire extinguisher to put out most of the flames, the SFD said.

Firefighters were able to disconnect the power to the elevator and extinguish the remaining areas of fire on top of the elevator car. Damage was contained to the ceiling and top of the elevator car, the SFD said.

Firefighters cleared smoke from the elevator shaft and adjacent areas of the mall. The SFD tweeted that all 26 personnel were clear of the scene at 9:58 p.m.

The Stamford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
