Firefighter Injured While Battling Blaze: Stamford FD

The Stamford Fire Department said a fire broke out at a home on Reynolds Avenue Saturday night. One firefighter was injured.

STAMFORD, CT — A firefighter was injured while battling a blaze at a home on Reynolds Avenue over the weekend, according to the Stamford Fire Department.

Around 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, firefighters responded to a report of a house fire in the area of Reynolds Avenue and Austin Avenue.

The first-arriving fire companies from nearby Woodside Fire Station found a fire in the rear of a home on Reynolds Avenue, which was spreading quickly from the deck area up and into the attic space, a news release from SFD said.

Firefighters had to force their way into the home, as it was unoccupied at the time. The fire was contained to the rear deck and attic area, a news release said.

Due to water supply concerns, low water pressure and several inoperable fire hydrants in the neighborhood, two tanker trucks were called to the scene, fire officials said. Firefighters from the Belltown Fire Department also provided help, and tanker trucks from the Long Ridge Fire Department and Turn of River Fire Department stood-by in case they needed to help with water supply.

The fire was placed under control within 30 minutes, the SFD said.

"One firefighter was injured during the course of fire extinguishment and was transported by Stamford Emergency Medical Services (SEMS) to Stamford Hospital for further evaluation," the SFD said in a news release.

Four Engine Companies, one Truck Company, one Heavy Rescue Company, and the Shift Commander initially responded with a total of 26 personnel.

Additional support was provided by Stamford Emergency Medical Services, the Stamford Police Department and the Stamford Fire Department Mechanical Division Scene Support Unit.

The Stamford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
