Stamford Parks & Recreation Commission To Discuss Park Bike Restrictions, Proposed Special Events

STAMFORD, CT — Proposed bike restrictions on a trail in Mianus River Park and issues involving pickleball courts at Cummings Park are among the items the Stamford Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to consider next Wednesday.

The commission's regular meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 6:30 p.m. and will be held virtually via Zoom and conference call. A public participation session is listed on the agenda, with comments limited to three minutes per person.

Board members from Friends of Mianus River Park are scheduled to give a presentation on prohibiting bicycles from one of the park's narrow river trails.

Several proposed special events are on the agenda for consideration, including the West Side Community Festival proposed at Carwin Park on Sept. 5, the second annual IIMPACT Community Cookout proposed at Scalzi Park on Sept. 12 and the Stamford Charter School for Excellence Fall Family Festival proposed at Scalzi Park on Sept. 19.

The commission is also expected to hear a presentation from Doug Edwards and Pernille Halbro of Stamford Pickleball on several issues involving the pickleball courts at Cummings Park.

Also at Cummings Park, the commission is scheduled to hold a follow-up discussion on the playground renovation. A public hearing on the project was held at the commission's July 15 meeting.

Commissioners are also expected to receive an update on projects taking place in city parks, along with an update from Parks & Recreation Director Kevin Murray. Other discussion items include updates on the Stamford Parks Community Partnership, Geographic Information Services (GIS) mapping, and a reference guide and vision document.
