Firefighter Injured While Battling Restaurant Blaze: Stamford FD

According to the Stamford Fire Department, a fire broke out at Sandra's Mexican Food & Taqueria on Saturday afternoon.

STAMFORD, CT — According to the Stamford Fire Department, a fire broke out at Sandra's Mexican Food & Taqueria in the Belltown section of Stamford on Saturday afternoon, injuring one firefighter. The blaze was placed under control after about an hour.

Shortly before 4 p.m., Stamford and Belltown firefighters responded to 18 Belltown Road after receiving a report of a fire.

The first arriving fire chief found visible flames coming from the attic space of the taqueria, which were spreading to the attic space of an adjacent barbershop and into an apartment located at the rear of the building, the fire department said. Firefighters were able to contain the fire in those areas; the apartment sustained smoke and water damage.

A firefighter who was injured during the call was taken by Stamford Emergency Medical Services to Stamford Hospital for further evaluation, the SFD said.

The Stamford Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
