Girls Inc. Of Fairfield County Hosts NASA Discussion In Stamford

The career conversation will be held at Scofield Magnet School on May 10.

From Girls Inc of Fairfield County: As part of Girls Inc of Fairfield County’s Leadership and Career Development Series, their Leadership Group is hosting execs from NASA for a candid conversation about the opportunities at the country’s aeronautics giant.

Dr. Jean-Marie Jean-Pierre, Acting Chief for IT Programs Office (ITPO) at NASA Goddard Space
light Center in Greenbelt, MD and Dr. C. Alex Young, Associate Director for Science in the Heliophysics Science Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and head of the Heliophysics Education Consortium along with Maia Weinstock, editor, writer, and producer of science and children’s media; deputy editor at MIT News, the news outlet of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and designer/creator of the 2016 Women of NASA Lego set, will be on hand to talk about their own paths and the countless opportunities for those looking for an amazing career in STEM and other fields.

The event will be moderated by Christine Kennedy, Chemical Engineer and Girls Inc Program Manager for Fairfield County and hosted by Louise McMinn, 6th Grade Technology Teacher, Scofield Magnet School, National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellow and Girls Inc. Board of Trustees member. The event will allow students to gain insight into many different career options and give them time to ask questions.

The morning will kick off a full day of career conversations centered around STEM and other amazing opportunities. The day will continue with their sister organization, Girls Inc of Greater Waterbury’s Teen Leaders hosting both execs from NASA for a candid conversation about the opportunities at the country’s aeronautics giant both in the afternoon and later that evening. The afternoon will put the NASA team at the group’s facility for a round table discussion with the girls at their main facility in Waterbury. The evening’s event will be held at Post University in Waterbury, CT and open to all students, but best suited for teens and young adults.
