Greenwich Man Offered Plea Deals In Deadly Stamford Crash: Reports
Michael Talbot, of Greenwich, was arrested in January and charged in connection with the hit-and-run deaths of two Stamford residents.
STAMFORD, CT — Michael Talbot, the 24-year-old Greenwich man charged in the December 2022 double-fatal pedestrian crash in Stamford, has been offered two different plea deals by state prosecutors, according to media reports.
Talbot would plead guilty to two counts of first-degree manslaughter and single counts of evading responsibility for an accident resulting in death, and driving under the influence in connection with the deaths of 25-year-old Stamford residents Giovani Vega Benis and Yuliana Arias Lozano, Stamford Advocate said.
In the first offer, Talbot would serve a 20-year sentence suspended after he serves 12 to 15 years with five years probation, News 12 reported.

Under the other offer, Talbot would also serve a 20-year sentence suspended after he serves 13.5 years with five years probation.
Talbot's driver's license would also be permanently suspended.

Citing attorneys for Benis and Lozano, the Advocate noted that the families oppose the offers and are in favor of more jail time.
Talbot is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 21.
On Dec. 3, 2022, Benis and Lozano finished working at Cantina Mexicana on Summer Street and went to Curley's Diner together in downtown Stamford to grab a late-night bite to eat, police said.
Shortly after at around 2:05 a.m., the two were walking each other home and crossing Washington Boulevard at Main Street when they were struck by a 2022 Mercedes Benz driven by Talbot, police said.
According to his arrest warrant, Talbot told police he was out drinking with friends before the crash. Police said he was driving 86 mph in a 25-mph zone and did not apply the brakes at any time.
Talbot fled the area on foot, but was apprehended nearby a short time later, police said.
On Jan. 5, Talbot was arrested with the help of the Collier County Sheriff's Office in Florida.
Charges were upgraded against Talbot in April.
According to the state of Connecticut Judicial Branch website, Talbot has previous convictions related to reckless driving and evading responsibility.
