How the Structure and Discipline of Karate Teaches MMA to Kids in Stamford CT

The Discipline and Structure of Karate Teaches MMA to Children

For decades now parents have turned to KARATE to instill discipline and confidence in their children.  Especially after seeing the Karate Kid movie.  As someone coming from a foundation and background of Karate I can honestly say that Karate is the best way to develop self discipline, but one problem, it’s not the best to teach self defense and self confidence.

Using the discipline of Karate to help keeps kids focus in our MMA classes

Karate,Tao Kwon Do, Kung Fu, etc are all traditional Martial Arts taught centuries ago to defend one’s self against solders on horses.  If you walked into a traditional martial arts school like Karate you will learn the same techniques taught centuries ago.  That means if a Samurai was riding around on his horse and he attacked you then Karate would work perfectly, but of course that’s not the case.

FROM KARATE 30 YEARS AGO TO MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

Bullies or attackers will most likely grab, choke or throw you to the ground trying to over power you with their size and strength.  This is where Mixed Martial Arts comes into play.  At Tiger Schulmann’s Stamford we combine Boxing which has the best hand self defense along with unequaled head and body movement.  Then we take Muay Thai Kickboxing, which has the most effective kicks, knee kicks and elbow strikes.  Plus, we teach our students how to defend themselves in a close range self defense situation.  We teach Jiu-Jitsu, this way if a larger bully holds, grabs, chokes or throws your child to the ground he or she will be able to take care of themselves despite the size, strength and gender of the bully.

With Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) there is so much technique to teach.  This is where the Karate comes into play.  Along time ago Tiger Schulmann’s used to be Karate, we taught countless amounts of children of all ages and the way we did that was with the structure and discipline that is from Karate.  So why get rid of that if it works so well?  That’s why even though our self defense program is modern, we keep the discipline and structure of that traditional martial art to get our curriculum across to the kids and adults.
