ID Released Of Woman Shot, Killed In Stamford: PD
A man told police his girlfriend tried to stab him and that he shot her Tuesday night at an apartment in Stamford, according to police.
STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Police Department said it is investigating the death of Stephanie Guirand, a 36-year-old Stamford woman who was found dead from a single gunshot wound to the head Tuesday night at a Woodside Green apartment.
Officers responded to the complex which is across from Scalzi Park at approximately 9:45 p.m., Tuesday after receiving a call from a man who said his girlfriend tried to stab him and that he shot her, police said.
Emergency Medical Services personnel and officers found Guirand in the bedroom where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The man, later identified as Anthony Vines, was outside the apartment building when officers arrived, said police, who noted that Vines didn't resist or attempt to flee the area.
Vines, 40, is a convicted felon and is prohibited from having a firearm, police noted. He was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a firearm, and held on a $500,000 bond. Vines was arraigned Wednesday morning.

The SPD's Major Crime Investigators and Crime Scene Officers processed the scene and executed a search warrant.
Police said numerous items were seized from the residence including a knife and a firearm.
An Assistant State’s Attorney responded to the scene and is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
Police first announced the investigation Wednesday morning. Capt. Richard Conklin of the SPD said the incident was "isolated," and that there was no threat to the community.
