Immigrant center thanks outgoing board, welcomes new leaders
Building One Community thanks retiring board members and welcomes new ones at its Annual Board Meeting on January 23rd.
Building One Community – The Center for Immigrant Opportunity (B1C) will honor retiring board members and welcome its new leaders at the Annual Board Meeting on January 23, 2019. Community leaders who serve on B1C’s Board of Directors reside in Fairfield County and New York City. Each member contributes to B1C’s mission by calling on their unique experiences as business professionals, educators, attorneys, faith leaders, philanthropists etc. to advise the nonprofit organization. B1C’s board also contains individuals who are first- and second-generation immigrants. These individuals draw on their personal and family experiences to help B1C strengthen its programs to better meet the needs of the population it serves.
At the January 23rd meeting, Building One Community will thank retiring board members Carmen Domonkos, Ginny Fox, Maryann Kann, Hana Lane, Jeannette van Campenhout Ayerza, Mirellise Vazquez, and Ximena Velasquez for their service. The nonprofit will also welcome new board members Jean-Luc Charles, David Cohen, Arisleyda Riehl, Eleanor Riemer, Maria Sandoval, and Jose Luis Zepeda.
Building One Community’s Board of Directors has overseen and guided the nonprofit’s growth since 2011, when B1C opened its doors to immigrants in the greater Stamford area. Today, B1C is a trusted resource center in the community that strives to bring passionate people together to help immigrants and their families succeed in the community. The nonprofit offers services that Educate, Empower, Employ, and Engage immigrants and members of the community. These services include English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, vocational and specific skill training programs, family and individual services such as food pantry and healthcare professional referrals, and immigration legal services. B1C’s Board of Directors will provide critical guidance to the nonprofit as an increasing amount of immigrants seek out the nonprofit’s services to improve their daily lives.
