Interim Principal Named At Scofield Magnet Middle School

STAMFORD, CT — Scofield Magnet Middle School Principal Dr. Shawn Marinello is taking a leave of absence, according to an announcement from Stamford Public Schools, and Sandra Carlton has been named a temporary replacement.

Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero announced that Marinello was granted an immediate leave of absence due to a family emergency.

Carlton joined Scofield on July 1 from Strawberry Hill School, where she had been assistant principal since 2019. A 28-year veteran of SPS, Carlton is a highly regarded instructional leader and administrator who was a Stamford Public Education Foundation Excellence in Education recipient in 2018 and Stamford Teacher of the Year in 2008.

Jennifer Laughlin, who joined Scofield as the multi tiered systems of support (MTSS) teacher on July 1, will serve as interim assistant principal. A graduate of Westhill High School, Laughlin joined Scofield from Turn of River Middle School, where she had been an assistant principal since 2021 and was administrative intern from 2013 to 2020.

Sandra Schwoerer will join Scofield as the interim MTSS teacher effective immediately. Schwoerer is currently a teacher on special assignment (TOSA) in the Teaching & Learning Department. She began her tenure with SPS at Scofield, where she was a teacher of English as a second language from 2013 to 2019.

"Dr. Marinello and Mrs. Carlton worked together throughout the summer to prepare for the upcoming school year, which is why we know this will be a seamless transition," said Lucero n a news release. "I am confident that Mrs. Carlton, Ms. Laughlin, and Ms. Schwoerer will create a warm and welcoming school environment for staff and students, and that they will uphold Scofield’s high academic standards."
