Kitchen floors-go light, or go dark?

For your kitchen, which is the right way to go?

Consider your home’s overall style.  Country casual, elegant formal, or somewhere in-between?  Natural light coupled with high ceilings factor in how dark to go.  Look at magazines like HGTV to decide what speaks to you.  Dark wood flooring is vivid and refined. Be aware maple flooring does not take stain well, a consideration if installing new floors.  

Light wood flooring is preferable in rooms without a lot of natural light and can make a room appear larger. Light floors look cleaner longer and hide wear. Pine is soft for high traffic areas, but harder oak, maple, and ash work well for kitchens and mudrooms.
