Leathernecks of Connecticut Celebrate Marine Corps' 239th Birthday
Stamford Marine Corps veteran was among those attending a luncheon to benefit the USMC Scholarship Foundation

The Leathernecks of Connecticut celebrated the 239th birthday of the United States Marine Corps on Monday with a luncheon at Giovanni’s Restaurant.
In keeping with Marine Corps tradition, Col. Mike Di Scipio used his Mameluke sword to cut and serve the first pieces of birthday cake to John Geas and Sgt. Jonathan Edmunds, the oldest and youngest Marines at the Nov. 10 luncheon in Darien.
Taking part in the ceremony are from left, Jim Newton of Wilton, Tom Kealy of Darien, Ben Benson of Greenwich, Sgt. Jonathan Edmunds, a recruiter based in Stamford, Col. Mike Di Scipio of New Canaan, John Geas of Stamford, Jim Grabinski of Trumbull and Michael McDonagh of New Canaan.

Proceeds of the event are donated to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, a non-profit organization that grants higher education scholarships to children of Marine and Navy Corpsmen.
