Lifeguard Arrested After Near-Drowning At Stamford Chelsea Piers

A 5-year-old boy was under the water for four minutes before being pulled out.

STAMFORD, CT — A Chelsea Piers lifeguard was criminally charged after a 5-year-old boy almost drowned in August.

Zachary Stein, 23, of New Canaan is charged with risk of injury to a child and reckless endangerment, according to the Stamford Advocate.

The 5-year-old boy was under water for four minutes before the lifeguard realized what had happened. The boy was pulled from the pool and CPR was started to get the victim breathing again.

There were about 20 to 30 children in the pool at the time of the incident.
