Man Accused Of Groping Teen On Greyhound Bus Arrested: Stamford PD
Police said they arrested a 42-year-old man and charged him with fourth-degree sexual assault and breach of peace.

STAMFORD, CT — Last week, police transported a 42-year-old man from Alleghany County Jail in Pittsburgh, Pa. back to Stamford and charged him with sexual assault in connection with an incident that occurred on a Stamford-bound Greyhound bus in 2017.
Jonathon Sawyer, also known as Roosevelt McGill, was charged with fourth-degre sexual assault and breach of peace. He was given a court-set bond of $100,000.
Police said in October 2017, a 17-year-old female Stamford resident was on a Greyhound bus coming back from Rhode Island, when she saw Sawyer grope another female who was sleeping on the bus.

Sawyer was intoxicated and disruptive on the bus, police said, and started to proposition the 17-year-old. Police said Sawyer then began to sexually grope her over her clothes.
After the bus arrived in Stamford and passengers disembarked, Sawyer followed the 17-year-old and forcefully kissed her on the mouth, police said, adding that Sawyer boarded another bus out of town. The victim notified the Stamford Police Department.

Officer Jermaine Sylva was assigned to the case "with a low expectation of solvability."
But police were helped out by the victim, who said Sawyer showed her his social media profiles.
"With that, officer Sylva utilized numerous investigative techniques, and was able to identify Sawyer through his social media accounts," police said in a news release on Facebook.
An extraditable arrest warrant was developed for Sawyer, who had evaded Sylva for months, police said. Sylva established an address for Sawyer, and an arrest was ultimately made.
"We commend Officer Sylva for his work on this investigation. The investigation was difficult, multi-jurisdictional, however resulted in the arrest of Sawyer, who was a convicted Murderer, and preyed upon an innocent juvenile victim," police said in a news release on Facebook. "We would like to say that as a commitment to be one of the safest large Cities in the Northeast. If you commit a crime in the City of Stamford, we will investigate it, we will complete warrants, and get the perpetrator, no matter where they flee to."
