STAMFORD, CT — A 41-year-old man was arrested on June 6 after police say he invaded a Stamford home on Taylor Street and threatened occupants inside with a knife during the early morning hours.

Ruben Vazquez-Rosas, of Port Chester, N.Y., was charged with home invasion; first-degree burglary; carrying a dangerous weapon; disorderly conduct; criminal mischief; risk of injury to a child; and second-degree threatening, Assistant Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin said.

Police gave Vazquez-Rosas a $100,000 bond, which was raised to $250,000 in court, Conklin noted. The CT Judicial Branch website says Vazquez-Rosas is released from custody.

Conklin said Vazquez-Rosas used a ladder to climb up to a second-floor bedroom window which he smashed to gain entry into the home; he then threatened a woman and her boyfriend with a knife once inside, Conklin added.

"The boyfriend was able to grab the party with the knife and take him to the ground. There was a struggle with that party. The woman's son came in from his bedroom and was able to help take the knife away from the suspect. They secured the suspect on the ground until police arrived," Conklin said.

Conklin noted that Vazquez-Rosas is known to the residents.

"In questioning people at the house, this suspect had been to the house, was a casual acquaintance to people in the house," Conklin said.

Police recovered a knife with an 8-inch blade and found the ladder that was used to gain entry into a second-floor bedroom, Conklin added.

"Officers responding got there very quickly and were able to get the situation in hand with help of the residents," Conklin said. "We're just lucky nobody was injured in this situation."

Vazquez-Rosas is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 2, the CT Judicial Branch website shows.
