Man Charged In Connection With Broad Daylight Shooting: Police
Police said the Sept. 7 shooting in Stamford showed "a very callous disregard for members of the community."

STAMFORD, CT — Police said on Saturday that a 25-year-old man has been charged in connection with a broad daylight shooting near a busy intersection in the Ridgeway section of Stamford on Sept. 7.
Kenneth Jeffries, of Norwalk, was stopped for speeding in Bethany, CT on Friday by State Police Troop I, according to Capt. Richard Conklin of the Stamford Police Department.
Conklin said a warrant was on file from the SPD charging Jeffries with first-degree criminal attempt at assault, criminal possession of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Jeffries was arrested on the warrant and taken to Bridgeport and Troop G, where officers picked him up and brought him back to Stamford, Conklin said. Jeffries was given a court-set bond of $500,000, and an additional $15,000 for violation of probation.
On Sept. 7 at approximately 3:30 p.m. near the corner of Summer Street and North Street in Stamford, Conklin said Jeffries fired shots at multiple people before fleeing from the area.

"It appears he stalked these intended victims for some time and survilled them before the shooting. We don't know the nature of the dispute that led to this shooting," Conklin said.
The Planet Pizza building and a car were struck by gunfire, but no injuries were reported. Conklin said there was "a very callous disregard for members of the community."
"You have a bus stop there, you have pedestrians, you have a very busy intersection. There are children waiting in line at Dairy Queen and Planet Pizza is very busy. We're extremely lucky that nobody was struck by these numerous rounds that were fired," Conklin added, noting that Stamford Police Headquarters is a block away.
The SPD's Crimes Against Persons Squad went through "an exhaustive investigation" looking through surveillance video in the area prior to getting an arrest warrant. Conklin praised Sgt. Jen Lynch and Dets. Luis Velez, Charlie Williams, Angel Gonzalez and Nick Spinelli for their work on the case.
