Over $60K Worth Of Merchandise Stolen From Fur Store, Man Charged: SPD

Stamford police said three masked men stole over $60,000 worth of merchandise from a city fur store in December 2023.

STAMFORD, CT — A 36-year-old man was arrested on March 5 in connection with a theft from a Stamford fur store in December 2023. Police noted that $62,750 worth of merchandise was taken.

Moses Nance, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., was arrested last week and charged with first-degree larceny and first-degree conspiracy at larceny, Stamford police announced Monday.

On Dec. 27, 2023, at approximately 4:34 p.m., three masked men entered Engel's Furs on Bedford Street and began removing fur coats from the clothing racks, according to police. The men left quickly and entered a getaway vehicle.

Investigators from the Stamford Police Crimes Against Property Unit tracked the vehicle to Westchester County, N.Y.

Nance, who has a lengthy criminal history according to police, was identified as a suspect. He was also wanted in Westchester for a violent assault that place in Mount Vernon, police said.

Nance was extradited from Westchester County to Stamford where he was charged.

The CT Judicial Branch website notes that Moses is in custody on a $150,000 bond. He's scheduled to appear in court on April 15.
