STAMFORD, CT — A 26-year-old man wanted in connection with a shooting in Stratford late last month was arrested in Stamford on Jan. 24, according to police.

Devon Dotson, of Stratford, was found by the Stamford Police Department's Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad and Patrol Division in a car in the 1000 block of Hope Street shortly before 7:30 p.m. last Friday, Assistant Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin said.

Stratford Police had contacted Stamford Police Capt. Chris Baker around 7 p.m. that night, saying they had reason to believe Dotson was there, Conklin said.

Officers looked in several locations before they found Dotson, blocked in his car and took him into custody at gunpoint, Conklin said, noting a section of Hope Street was closed down during the arrest.

Connecticut State Police notified Stratford Police around 1 a.m. on Dec. 30, 2024, that two victims went to Troop G in Bridgeport to report a shooting that happened in Stratford, according to Stratford Police Capt. Jerry Pinto.

The driver of a white Hyundai Sonata had fired shots at the victims’ vehicle in the area of Dewey Street in Stratford, according to Pinto.

Pinto said patrol officers found a spent .45 caliber shell casing in the 100 block of Dewey Street, and an investigation led police to a home in the 400 block of Sedgewick Avenue, where the white Hyundai Sonata was found.

The Hyundai was towed to the Stratford Police Department along with the vehicle that the two victims were driving at the time of the shooting, according to Pinto.

Pinto said detectives executed search warrants on Jan. 3 on both vehicles and seized evidence related to the Dec. 30 shooting on Dewey Street. Another search warrant was executed on Jan. 9 at the home on Sedgewick Avenue, evidence was again seized in connection with the shooting, according to Pinto.

Detectives executed multiple search warrants in January on electronic devices that were seized on Jan. 9, and police also learned that the .45 caliber shell casing recovered from the Dewey Street shooting incident was a match to a Glock .45 caliber firearm recovered during a motor vehicle stop in Bridgeport on Jan. 12, according to Pinto.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Dotson in connection with the shooting on Dewey Street, according to Pinto.

Dotson was charged with criminal attempt at first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying a pistol without a permit, weapon in a motor vehicle and illegal transfer of a firearm. He was held in lieu of a $250,000 bond with a court date of Jan. 27.
