'Maury' Show To End After 30 Years On Air

STAMFORD, CT — The "Maury" show, which is hosted by Maury Povich and filmed in Stamford, will come to an end after 30 years.

"Maury and I decided two years ago that this season would be the farewell season for the show, and while his retirement is bittersweet, we are so happy for him to be able to spend more time on the golf course," said Tracie Wilson, executive vice president of NBCUniversal Syndication Studios, in a recent news release. "Maury is a television icon, a pop culture legend and we couldn’t be more proud to have been a part of his incredible career."

The show has been filmed and produced in Stamford by Stamford Media Center for over a decade. "The Steve Wilkos Show," "Judge Jerry," and "The Doctors" are also filmed in Stamford.

"Six years ago when I was ready to retire, my the NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show," Povich, 83, said in a news release. "Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal. I’m so proud of my relationship with NBCUniversal and all those who worked on the 'Maury' show but as I occasionally tell my guests on 'Maury,' "Enough, already!"

The one-hour, nationally syndicated tabloid talk show, is best known for its "You Are (or Are Not) the Father!" segments where Povich announces surprise results of paternity tests to guests.

The show has also showcased various topics like teen pregnancy, sexual infidelity, unusual phobias and makeovers, among many others.

After the run of original episodes is complete in September, NBCUniversal will continue to syndicate repeats of the show.
