Mayor Martin: Attack on Lesbian Woman 'Deplorable'
Mayor David Martin said the recent reported attack on a woman who identified herself as lesbian to man is being taken very seriously.
STAMFORD, CT- Mayor David Martin said the assault on a woman who identified herself as lesbian is being taken very seriously.
“This deplorable attack has no place in our City, and does not represent the diversity we celebrate here in Stamford," he said. "Due to the heinousness of this attack, our police department is treating the investigation seriously.
A woman reported being punched in the face by a man who began to flirt with her as she and another woman walked down Spring Street. The woman said she wasn't interested in men and the assailant made a remark before assaulting her, police said.

Martin encouraged anyone who identifies as LGBT and feels they are being discriminated against in the city to contact the city's liaisons. Assistant Chief Tom Wuennemann is the police liaison and Deputy Corporation Counsel Vikki Cooper is the mayor’s and city’s liaison.
"There is still more work to do, especially in light of this weekend’s assault," he said. "We will continue our efforts to make Stamford safe for everyone.”
