Nanny Accused Of Stealing $15K In Cash, Other Items From Stamford Family: PD

STAMFORD, CT — A local nanny is accused of stealing $15,000 in cash and other expensive items from a Stamford family she worked for, according to the Stamford Police Department.

Maria Fermin, of Stamford, surrendered to the SPD and gave a "full confession," police said in a news release. She was charged with first-degree larceny and criminal attempt at fourth-degree larceny, and was released on a $50,000 court-set bond.

Police said Fermin was working as a nanny for a family in Stamford when the family noticed items missing from their home.

The family first noticed an expensive camera lens was missing, then a tennis bracelet, a purse and $15,000 in cash, police said.

"The family suspected Fermin because they observed Meta photos where Fermin was wearing items identical to the ones they were missing," police said.

Altogether, Fermin is accused of stealing over $25,000 worth of items, police said.

Vanessa Lynn, a financial crimes investigator for the SPD, was able to track down a pawn shop where the tennis bracelet was sold and confirm that Fermin sold it, police noted.

Fermin was interviewed by police and "admitted to some of the allegations," but she returned to SPD headquarters the following day and gave investigators more information, according to police.
