Nearly 20 Infractions Issued For Failing To Remove Snow Or Ice From Vehicles, Stamford Police Say

The Stamford Police Department is reminding residents about removing snow and ice from their vehicles.

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford police have issued a reminder to residents about snow and ice removal from vehicles after the department said it issued nearly 20 citations to offending motorists on Tuesday.

Per Connecticut General Statutes, any accumulated snow and ice must be removed from the hood, trunk and roof of any vehicle that's being operated on a roadway, police explained in a social media post.

The SPD said its traffic enforcement unit issued 19 citations on Tuesday to drivers who failed to remove snow or ice from their vehicles.

After state and court fees, fines for this specific infraction totals $120, according to police.

"If accumulated snow and ice become dislodged from a vehicle and causes any property damage or personal injury, the offense then becomes a misdemeanor," police added. "Motorists are also reminded that CT law states that license plates of vehicles must be substantially unobscured, meaning that the letters and numbers of license plates must be visible, this is also an infraction."
