New Controller Announced For City Of Stamford

STAMFORD, CT — Mayor Caroline Simmons and Director of Administration Ben Barnes on Tuesday announced the appointment of Teresa Viscariello as the new controller for the city of Stamford. She succeeds David Yanik, who recently retired.

Since 2012, Viscariello has served as the internal auditor for the city. In that role, she conducted audits, reviews and analyses across city accounts and operations, identifying approximately $15 million in findings and recommendations.

"Teresa brings tremendous experience in accounting, auditing, and financial analysis and reporting from both the private and public sectors," Simmons said in a news release. "Her expertise in municipal finance, internal controls, and process improvements will be invaluable as we continue strengthening our financial management capabilities. I’m confident that Teresa will be an outstanding addition to our team."

Barnes said Viscariello is "the ideal candidate" for the role based on her "deep understanding of the city’s finances, combined with her technical accounting skills and collaborative leadership style."

"I look forward to her bringing her auditor’s perspective and work ethic to meet our financial reporting challenges," Barnes added.

Viscariello said she's "honored" to serve the city in the new role.

"I’m excited to work with this talented team to strengthen our financial controls and overall fiscal management," she said in a news release.

Prior to joining the city, Viscariello held finance leadership positions at Noble Americas Corp., UBS Investment Bank, GE Capital, and other companies. She is a certified public accountant and chartered global management accountant.

Viscariello’s appointment is effective April 15, a news release from Simmons' office said.
