Nathan was a member of the former group Administrative Management Society (AMS) where he met his future bride. When Nathan and Daniel were old enough, Nathan began his scouting career which spanned 20 years. Nathan served as Powahay District Chairman for two terms and Scoutmaster for Troop 5 Stamford for more than 10 years. In those years, he saw 18 Scouts from Troop 5 achieve the rank of Eagle, including his sons, Nathan and Daniel. He was also a Cubmaster for Pack 6 for several years. He was recognized with the “Powahay On My Honor Service to Youth Award”, “District Key 3 Award”, “District Award of Merit”, “Silver Bear Award”, and “Powahay’s Pioneer Award”. Troop 5 loved their camping trips; but their trips to the US Naval Academy for the Merit Badge weekend in January, where Scouts could take Merit Badges taught by the Midshipmen, was always the highlight!

There was a love for the Navy. Although Nathan never served, his dad, Byron, would share stories of his time in the reserves during WW2 at the United States Naval Academy before he went to the Pacific. Shortly after Byron passed in 2012, Nathan became a Blue and Gold Officer for the Admissions Office at the Naval Academy. He helped candidates with the application process and interviewed those that were assigned to him in the Stamford area. He was extremely proud of this volunteer job and took pride in what he was doing.
