Artists’ Reception: Thursday, May 21, 2026, 5 - 7:30pm
The Mayor’s Gallery is proud to present “Lina Morielli: Selected Works”. Lina Morielli had curated over 90 exhibitions, worked with over a hundred artists and arts organizations over a period of 15 years at the Mayor’s Gallery when she handed the baton to Ellen Gordon. Now, Ms. Gordon has invited her to exhibit a selection of her recent work in a solo exhibition. The exhibit will be on display from April 21st thru June 26th, 2026.
The artists’ reception is scheduled for May 21st from 5:00 – 7:30 pm where the public is invited to meet the artist.
Ms. Morielli’s displayed artwork, created during the early days of the pandemic delves into the subconscious, exploring the fragments of memory, the shadows of trauma and the fluidity of time in our current lives. Her creations are shaped by both global events and personal experiences, resulting in a rich visual language filled with evolving symbols and markings. Each piece serves as a dialogue between her internal landscape and external influences. Over more than fifty years, her choice of materials and forms has transformed, mirroring the changing realms of thought, emotion and history. This ongoing process of self-expression highlights the dynamic nature of creativity, reflection and sometimes reshaping our lived experiences.
Lina Morielli was born in Montreal, Canada and grew up in Darien, Connecticut. Her experience in art and design includes studies at Parsons School of Design and three decades in New York City designing and editing crafts for Woman’s Day and Family Circle magazines among others. This background in craft informs the tactile nature of her studio practice where, Morielli explains, the “immediacy of materials…help me access and express my ideas quickly.”
After twenty years living and working in New York City, she moved to Stamford, Connecticut in 1987 where she is an active member of that city’s creative community. President of Stamford’s Loft Artists Association for three years and a board member on approximately one-dozen Stamford nonprofits over the last four decades, Morielli has enriched the city’s cultural and educational landscape. In addition to her nonprofit contributions, Morielli produced and directed “Art in the Community” video documenting the art scene in Stamford and has created after school art enrichment programs for Stamford’s I Have a Dream Foundation and the Yerwood Center. For several years she offered after school video workshops at Westhill High School for students applying to film schools. She also has curated exhibitions in the area, including fifteen years of exhibitions in Stamford’s Mayor’s Gallery, featuring the work of Stamford’s and Fairfield County’s emerging artists.
Morielli’s work has been exhibited widely in Fairfield County, Connecticut and also throughout Westchester County, NY and New York City. Her work has also has been featured in solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles and most recently at ArtPlace Gallery in Fairfield, CT and the Atlantic Gallery in NYC. Her paintings and mixed media art is in over one-hundred private collections and is permanently exhibited in public spaces as part of the Connecticut One Percent for Art Collection as well as at area hospitals and universities and public buildings including: Yale Medical Center, Bridgeport, CT; Stamford Hospital; the State Superior Court House; and Sacred Heart University, College of Education and Healthcare.
Morielli maintains a studio practice in Stamford, CT and is a member of Greenwich Art Society (also a Board member), Artists Collective of Westport, Connecticut Women Artists and The Atlantic Gallery in NYC.
The Mayor’s Gallery is located on the 10th floor of Stamford’s Government Center. The City of Stamford which gives area artists an opportunity to exhibit their work in this space. There are six exhibitions annually featuring emerging and professional artists.
