My "Around the House" Tip of the Day for Wednesday February 21,2024:
Often people will tell me they hate rodents and yet almost every home we inspect (including mine) we find plenty of evidence of mice and rats. This is definitely the season, as these critters are warm blooded and do not like the cold. Rodents feel items with their whiskers and tend to run along walls and edges of the foundation. They forage for food and will happily pee on wires, floor areas and whatever they are running around on. A happy rodent will enter the panel box and live in that rarely opened safe place or in the wall cavities. Setting new style mouse traps is one answer, or sticky boards. These are available at all home centers, but you must be diligent keeping the traps freshly baited. Sticky boards don't need bait, but watch your bigger pets as they may step on them. They will not be happy. Sticky boards should be set parallel to the wall and not in placed corners. Happy hunting...
