Police Seize Large Variety Of Drugs, Loaded Gun; Man Arrested: Stamford Police

A 35-year-old man was arrested after a brief foot pursuit in Stamford on Feb. 7, police said.

STAMFORD, CT — A multi-week investigation led by the Stamford Police Department's Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old city man and the recovery of an array of drugs, cash and a loaded revolver, according to police.

Cabrinie Barnes, who goes by the nickname "Dread," was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit last week near his home on Peak Street, Assistant Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin said.

"This was a very nice job by Narcotics and Organized Crime in taking this large trafficker out of circulation," Conklin said.

Investigators had been looking into Barnes and possible fentanyl and cocaine sales within Stamford, Conklin said.

On Feb. 7, with the assistance of the SPD's K9 unit, officers set up outside of Barnes' Peak Street home to execute arrest and search warrants.

At around 3 p.m., Barnes was seen leaving his home and entering an Uber, but as police moved in, Barnes fled on foot and tossed a backpack he was carrying, Conklin said, noting he was later taken into custody without incident on nearby Alpine Street.

From the backpack, according to police, officers recovered 38.7 grams of loose fentanyl; 10 grams of powder cocaine; 88 grams of marijuana; 3.3 grams of psilocybin mushroom; 35 MDMA pills; 9 amphetamine/dextroamphetamine pills; four Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride pills, 19 Alprazolam pills; 12 Oxycodone 30 mg pills; $60 in cash; packaging materials; and a scale.

A search of Barnes' bedroom found a loaded Taurus .357 caliber revolver, along with 84 tablets of Buprenorphine sublingual 8mg tablets; 168 tablets of Buprenorphine sublingual 2mg tablets; 51.6 grams of powder cocaine; 48 grams of crystal methamphetamine; 1,580 grams of marijuana; 97 Alprazolam pills; a variety of ammunition, drug ledgers; vacuum sealers; a pill press; packaging materials; and a scale, police said.

Elsewhere in the home, police said they seized 123.6 grams of loose fentanyl; 543 Oxycodone 30 mg pills; broken alprazolam pills; $8,000 in cash; body armor; more ammunition; packaging materials and a scale.

An arrest warrant charged Barnes with four counts of sale of narcotics, and he was additionally charged with:

Criminal possession of a firearm; criminal possession of ammunition; illegal transfer of a firearm; possession of narcotics; possession of Narcotics with intent to sell greater than an ounce; possession of a hallucinogen; possession of a hallucinogen with intent to sell; possession of a controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell; possession of marijuana greater than a kilo; possession of marijuana with intent to sell; operating a drug factory; and interfering with police.

The arrest warrant came with a bond of $300,000, and a bond of $500,000 was issued for the additional charges, according to police.

Barnes is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 21.
