Positive Coronavirus Cases Found At 2 Stamford Schools: Report

STAMFORD, CT — School officials said a positive case of the coronavirus was found at both Weshill High School and Stamford High School, however neither school is expected to be closed Tuesday, the Stamford Advocate reports.

According to the Stamford Advocate, letters were sent to families at both public schools indicating one positive case of the virus was discovered at each school. Both principals indicated protocols were followed and contact tracing was quickly performed. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

On Friday, Stillmeadow Elementary School was closed for the day after district officials confirmed there had been a report of a positive case of the virus, also referred to as COVID-19, at the school.

A post on the district website the previous night said the school was closed "due to the need to complete COVID-19 contact tracing."

In an email to Patch, district spokesperson Sharon Beadle confirmed there was "one positive case reported from the Stillmeadow community."

"As the superintendent has said from the start, health and safety is a priority," Beadle said in an email, "because of the timing of our notification, we were not able to complete contact tracing, which is a critical step. So it was most prudent to close the school so that that step could be completed."

She also noted the school would reopen Monday.

"If we had had another hour or so [Thursday] night," Beadle said, "we would have been open [Friday]."
