STAMFORD, CT — With Major League Baseball in the middle of a lockout with no end in sight, players across the league are finding ways to stay busy. For Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Matt Barnes, that means heading to Sally's Apizza in Stamford and throwing some delicious pies around in the kitchen.

On Monday, Barnes visited Sally's Apizza at 66 Summer St. in Stamford. On his Instagram, Barnes posted a video of himself in a custom No. 32 Sally's jersey, making pizzas and handing out orders to customers.

"My name is Matt Barnes, pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, 2018 World Series champion and 2021 all-star, and Sally's Apizza is my favorite pizza," Barnes said in his video, which had the caption IYKYK, an acronym for "If You Know, You Know."

Sally's Apizza originally opened in New Haven on Wooster Street in 1938. It has since attracted a cult following for its New Haven-style coal-fired, thin-crust pies and no frills menu. The Stamford location — the first outside of New Haven — opened last October.

Barnes was born in Danbury, CT and went to high school in Bethel. He attended the University of Connecticut (Storrs) and was drafted 19th overall by the Boston Red Sox in 2011. He made his debut in 2014, and was named to his first all-star team in 2021, going 6-5 with a 3.79 ERA in 60 games.

Barnes isn't the only professional athlete to visit Sally's. Last month, Connor McGovern, starting center for the New York Jets, stopped by the Stamford location. Sally's posted a photo of McGovern in front of the famous red and white brick ovens.
