Resident Dies At Stamford Nursing Home, Facility Fined: Report

Three staffers were fired as a result of the incident, writes Connecticut Health I-Team.

STAMFORD, CT — St. Camillus Center in Stamford was fined by the state Department of Public Health after a resident died in the facility and surveillance footage showed a 10-minute lapse before staff administered CPR to the unresponsive person, reports Connecticut Health I-Team. A total of six nursing homes throughout the state recently were fined by state for lapses in care.

The Stamford nursing home must pay a penalty of $6,000 in connection with the February 2018 case, in which the resident - who suffered from lung cancer - was found sitting on the floor unresponsive, not breathing and with no pulse.

According to Connecticut Health I-Team, not only did 10 minutes lapse before CPR was administered, the resident had not been checked for almost an hour prior to the discovery. Three staffers, including a registered nurse, were subsequently fired from the facility.
