Resident Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries In Stamford House Fire: FD
The resident's injuries were so severe that he jumped from the building before rescuers arrived, the Stamford Fire Department said.
STAMFORD, CT — A Stamford resident suffered life-threatening injuries in a house fire early Saturday morning, according to fire officials.
Units from the West Side Fire Station were called to a home in the teen block of Clinton Avenue at 5:15 a.m. on a report of a structure fire where they found smoke and fire coming from the windows on the first floor of an end-unit in a three-story multi-family building, the Stamford Fire Department said in a news release.
Neighbors reported to firefighters that an occupant was seen at a window at the rear of the home, and units raced to get a ground ladder in place to rescue them, the SFD said. However, the occupant's injuries were so severe that he jumped from the window before their arrival, the SFD said.

The injured occupant was treated at the scene and was taken to Stamford Hospital. The SFD did not provide further details on the occupant.
Firefighters received several reports of additional missing occupants inside the building and adjacent units, and a second alarm was sounded, the SFD said.

There were no additional occupants in the building, the SFD said, and the fire was placed under control within 20 minutes. Overhaul and salvage work took an additional two hours.
"This was an all-hands effort by first and second alarm companies. Initial arriving firefighters were confronted with a very dynamic and dangerous situation. Thanks to the collective efforts of all members, the fire was quickly brought under control and damage contained to the unit of origin," SFD Deputy Chief & Incident Commander Matt Palmer said in a news release.
A total of 50 fire department personnel responded, and no injuries were reported to firefighters working at the scene.
The Stamford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
