member Scott Mirkin (R-13) was sworn into the Board of Finance Monday evening by President Randall Skigen.

A seat was left vacant after former chairman Joe Tarzia handed in his resignation on Feb. 23 following ethics complaints.

The Board’s Appointments Committee nominated Mirken earlier in the evening after reviewing applications by and conducting interviews with both Mirken and local attorney Kieran Ryan, who was nominated by the Republican Town Committee.

At the regular Board meeting, Harry Day (R-13) described Mirken as “passionate, hardworking and knowledgeable” and said that he felt because of the depth of Mirken’s experience on the Fiscal Committee, there was “no substitute in terms of qualifications for the Board of Finance.”

After the Board voted in favor of his new position, Mirken handed in his resignation directly to Mayor Michael Pavia, who expressed his support of Mirken prior to the meeting.

“Nothing against Mr. Ryan, but Scott Mirkin is the right person for the job at this particular time,” he said. “There is no one that knows the budget process better than him.”

Mirkin joined the Board of Reps in 2001 and, in addition to the Fiscal Committee, served on the both the Public Safety & Health and Steering Committees.

After his resignation was filed with the Town Clerk, the Board of Reps nominated and approved Ralph F. Loglisci as Mirken's replacement for the 13th district. Loglisci was sworn in by Skigen shortly after. (Click on the video at the right to watch Loglisci's reaction to his new position.)

Loglisci served on the Board between 1991 and 2004 and was minority leader for all but two of those years. He currently serves as treasurer of the Republican Town Committee.
