Several Stamford Business Sold Alcohol To Minors During Checks: PD

Police in conjunction with state liquor officials conducted unannounced alcohol compliance checks at 24 businesses in Stamford on June 5.

STAMFORD, CT — Seven Stamford businesses sold alcohol to minors during a series of unannounced compliance checks conducted by police and the Connecticut Liquor Control Division, the Stamford Police Department announced Tuesday.

The checks were carried out at 24 establishments throughout June 5, according to Assistant Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin. Underage youth were chaperoned around by police and sent into businesses to purchase alcohol.

Rather than making criminal arrests and waiting for cases to be adjudicated in court, authorities decided to pursue administrative sanctions which could mean fines, temporary or permanent suspensions of licenses, depending on the history of a particular location, Conklin noted.

Conklin said police and state officials will continue with compliance checks as time and resources allow.

"We'd also like to hear from the community if anyone has some information on locations that are actively selling to minors — we'd be happy to receive that information and act upon it," Conklin said.
