Snow Shoveling Tips

Save your back... it's all you have!

(Steve Gladstone)

My "Around the House" Tip of the Day for Friday January 19, 2024:

Here we go again...another snow day and "This old house" is giving tips on how to shovel safely. Briefly, they talk about buying the right shovel... a flat one for lifting snow and a more rounded one for pushing. Pushing will certainly help you from hurting your back, but is only effective early if there is less than 3" of snow. Lifting gets harder as time passes and lifting with your legs will reduce back strain as well. They recommend taking breaks every 15 minutes, hydrating and dressing with layers to stay warm. I recommend good gloves, and a hat that protects your ears. If you get out early enough a leaf blower will actually blow the snow away if it isn't too wet. However, if you are not in relatively good shape, don't try to do it all at one time, or hire someone to plow & shovel. That may be the best money you can spend... instead of aches & discomfort for the next three days.

Have a great Weekend from "Around the House w/ Steve Gladstone & Stonehollow Home Inspections & Environmental Testing.
