At 10 a.m., medals will be presented by Stamford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero, and the Spirit Award school winner will be announced.

Families are then invited to participate in SPEF’s FallFest event, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., offering family-friendly arts, crafts, and activities from Kids Helping Kids and other community partners, face painting, healthy snacks, and a visit from the Ferguson Library’s BookMobile.

SPEF’s Books Across Stamford program will also be distributing free, new books to children grades pre-K through fifth grade.

The event celebrates the life and memory of Marcus Dixon McInerney, a Stamford High School graduate who overcame many life challenges to attend West Point Academy before his life ended tragically in 2012.

SPEF’s programs, including mentoring, are pathways that helped McInerney thrive in both his academics and life.

McInerney's struggle is all too familiar in communities like Stamford, but his successes are a model for what can happen when communities come together to support the youth.

All proceeds from the MarcUS for Change 5K are used to support SPEF’s programming and mission.
