My "Around the House" Tip of the Day for Friday February 16, 2024:
I hate throwing away food. I was brought up finishing everything on my plate... I know it certainly contributes to eating too much and gaining weight...but what I hate is things spoiling in the fridge and throwing away perfectly good food that might just kill you because of the mold around the edges. And I'm not talking about use by, or best by dates, but rather refrigerator gaskets that over time let the cooling escape. Moisture and reduced temps allow things to quickly become garbage. They say if you can pull a dollar through the gasket any where on the fridge or freezer you are losing efficiency and that means higher energy costs and or food deteriorating faster. Slimy lettuce or ice crystals on the ice cream might be telling you something is wrong. Door gaskets should not be damaged, bent or ripped and both doors should close tightly. Take a minute to check it out.
