STAMFORD, CT — Election day in Stamford is getting closer and there are plenty of candidates running for various positions in town. To help residents make an informed decision on Nov. 5, Stamford Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as the big day draws near.

Republican candidate Eva Maldonado, 59, is running against Jack Bryant (D) to fill a vacancy on Stamford's Board of Education for one year. Other Stamford Board of Education candidates include Fritz G. Chery (D), Daniel Dauplaise (D), Jennienne Burke (D), Nicola Tarzia (R), Rebecca Hamman (R), Margaret Feeney (R) and Rolf Maurer (Green Party).

Maldonado served as a Stamford Police officer for over 30 years, and is currently retired. A city resident, Maldonado has two grandsons who attend Stamford Public Schools.

Capital repairs: a capital repair list should be created, prioritized and presented to the city side. and create a collaborative approach with the Board of Finance for additional appropriations. Working together for the betterment of our city.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

Having over a decade of experience as a school resource officer, I was actively involved in several violence prevention task forces, as well as developing policy regarding school violence.

Additionally, I enhanced my profession by becoming a self–defense instructor, which allowed me to teach young ladies to be safe as they transition into college and/or their chosen careers. I also serve as an adult mentor for young women against domestic violence.

As the founder and president of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, I created a mentoring programs with students and small business in our community, which led into career paths for many students.

Furthermore, I have actively assisted in organizing and developing yearly budgets serving on many community boards.

My focus is safety, where teachers are safe to teach and students safe to learn.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

Being part of making Stamford a safe city!

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I am passionate about helping children achieve a better future. I look forward to representing all the children and families in our city. I need your vote, and I want your vote; I will be your voice!
