"We are all very thankful to God for this successful surgery that gives our son a new chance at life. We have immense gratitude to the donor and his family for this act of love. We thank the medical team at Yale Hospital for this successful surgery and the amazing care," Jorge said in the fundraiser description. "Now, we still need your prayers for a successful recovery and financial support to help with his journey. Mateo will continue to be at Yale Hospital for some weeks and his recovery will continue at home in the months ahead."

Jorge said Mateo will need around-the-clock care, and the fundraiser will help with medical bills.

"Thank you for making a difference in Mateo’s life through your prayers and contributions. We are profoundly grateful," Jorge said.
