Stamford Cop Hailed As Hero For Saving Life Of Stabbing Victim

A Stamford police officer came to the aid of a stabbing victim on April 16. A 58-year-old man was later arrested, police said.

STAMFORD, CT — A Stamford police officer is being hailed as a hero after he quickly came to the aid of a stabbing victim on Saturday and saved the man's life.

A 58-year-old man was later arrested and charged in connection with the stabbing, police said.

On April 16 around 9:09 a.m., officer Nicholas Kuhn of the Stamford Police Department was on routine patrol in the area of 579 Pacific St. when he was alerted to a man on the sidewalk who had been stabbed.

Kuhn immediately responded and found a 36-year-old man bleeding heavily from stab wounds to the upper chest and neck area, police said. Kuhn applied direct pressure to the wounds while waiting for Emergency Medical Services personnel to arrive. The victim was eventually taken to Stamford Hospital where he was treated and stabilized, police said.

Investigators responded to th scene and quickly interviewed witnesses and pulled security footage from the area. Police said Omar Davis, 58, a resident of the homeless shelter on Pacific Street, was arrested soon after.

Davis was charged with first-degree assault and carrying a dangerous weapon, police said. He was given a $250,000 bond.

Police said the investigation "is still ongoing and active."

The department praise Kuhn for his actions.

"It should be noted that numerous emergency personnel involved in the transport and treatment of the 36-year-old stabbing victim have stated 'had it not been for the rapid application of direct pressure to the serious stab wound by Officer Nicholas Kuhn, a four-and-a-half year veteran of the Stamford Police Department, the victim would have certainly bled out,'" the department said in a news release.

"The Stamford Police Department is extremely proud of the lifesaving efforts of Officer Nicholas Kuhn who without hesitation began life saving treatment in this life and death situation!"
