Stamford Coronavirus Updates: Schools Change Building Procedures

As the second week of distance learning ends, district officials have announced some changes in building procedures that begin next week.

STAMFORD, CT — As the second week of distance learning comes to an end in Stamford, district officials have announced some changes in building procedures that go into effect next week. In a message sent to families Friday, Superintendent Tamu Lucero praised staff and families for their "focus and dedication to educating" students as the city, and the state, continues to grapple with the new coronavirus.

She also asked families to plan for continued distance learning at least through April 20 in light of the governor's recent order that schools statewide remain closed until then. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

As part of the district's ongoing efforts to combat the spread of the virus, also referred to as COVID-19, through social distancing, educational staff members, parents, students and all other visitors will only be allowed in school buildings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. beginning Monday, March 30, Lucero said.

According to Lucero, all visitors, including students, family and community members, must make an appointment to enter any Stamford Public Schools building.

"Each school will post a phone number and e-mail address for scheduling appointments on the news section of their school website and at their main entrance," Lucero said in a statement. "There will be a designated area to pick up materials near the front entrance or main office at each school. Remember, in order to limit the number of people in any one area of our building, please refrain from interacting or socializing with others while you are onsite."
