Latest Stamford Coronavirus Updates
Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is impacting Stamford.
STAMFORD, CT — The new coronavirus outbreak in Connecticut and across the nation is having vast impacts in Stamford, including the closure of schools and many businesses. The number of cases of the illness caused by the virus, also referred to as COVID-19, continue to rise and additional measures and closures continue to be announced.
The governor has declared a 'Stay Safe, Stay Home' program. All non-life-sustaining businesses in Connecticut have been closed. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
As of Friday, there were 1,291 positive cases of coronavirus in Connecticut, including 76 confirmed cases in Stamford, according to numbers released by the state late Friday afternoon. A total of 27 Connecticut residents have died as a result of COVID-19. >>>See statewide updates and news here.

Stamford officials have taken a number of steps to mitigate the spread of the new coronavirus. Last week, city officials announced all playgrounds and ball fields in Stamford are closed until further notice.
As of Friday, March 20, all body care facilities in the city, including nail salons, beauty parlors, massage parlors, massage therapists, barbershops, hairdressers, cosmetologists, estheticians and eyelash technicians, are closed to the public until further notice.
The city also maintains a dedicated webpage for closures and affected services as a result of the virus.
Schools
Stamford schools remain closed until April 20, in accordance with an executive order signed by Lamont on Tuesday, March 24.
Budget
The city's finance board has delayed all budget hearings for the next two weeks, including all fiscal committee budget hearings. On Thursday, city officials announced the board will hold a special meeting Monday, March 30, via webinar to discuss the budget process and plans for this year.
The Stamford Board of Representative's fiscal committee has also delayed their budget hearings, officials said Thursday.
The city has used web conferencing for internal meetings since last week and may utilize online web conferencing for board, commission and public hearing meetings when appropriate, officials said.
COVID-19 is caused by a member of the coronavirus family that's a close cousin to the SARS and MERS viruses that have caused outbreaks in the past.
