Stamford Dollars for Scholars Awards $121,500 in Scholarships

SD4S awards scholarships to 36 college, university and trade-school bound students, a record in the organizations 12 year history.

Stamford, CT-June 5, 2019

Stamford Dollars for Scholars (SD4S) hosted their Annual Awards Ceremony presenting $121,500 in scholarships to 36 graduating high school attending a 2 or 4 year college, university or trade school. The ceremony took place at 6:30 PM at the University of Connecticut Stamford Campus in the GenRe Auditorium. Bjorn Bumactao, the president of Stamford Dollars for Scholars opened the evening stating, “This year we have reached significant milestones as we continue our mission to serve the Stamford community. For the 2nd straight year we have surpassed $100,000…in addition, we are awarding scholarships to 36 recipients, which is the most in our organization’s short history.” Special guests in attendance included Mayor David Martin and Stamford Pubic Schools Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero.

Bumactao also emphasized the importance of sponsors and being a solely volunteer-led and operated organization: “We cannot continue to perform this worthy endeavor without the support of the community and local sponsors like you. Our success is the result of the dedication of our many volunteers, helping us with fundraising, marketing, and the review of scholarship applications. We are proud that our organization is solely led by volunteer efforts, allowing us to allocate every dollar towards supporting our mission: fostering the success of deserving students and investing in their future.”

Stamford Dollars for Scholars was established to fill a void in our community by providing scholarship assistance to high school graduates who live or attend high school in Stamford, and who want to pursue education beyond high school. We share a passionate belief that education changes the lives of individuals and communities for the better.

We were conceived around a simple idea: together we can step in and help local students achieve their educational goals. There's no greater gift we can give our student neighbors-in-need than access to the tools to create a brighter future. Doing so tells them that we take pride in their determination and share their dreams.
