Stamford Downtown Leader Joins Presidential Campaign
Campaign officials said he will serve as co-chair of the 2020 presidential candidate's Connecticut campaign.
STAMFORD, CT — 2020 presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg's campaign announced this week that David Kooris, president of the Stamford Downtown Special Services District, will serve as co-chair of Bloomberg's Connecticut campaign. State Rep. Patricia Wilson Pheanious (D-Tolland) will also serve as a co-chair, according to a statement from the campaign.
In addition to his position with the DSSD, Kooris also serves as head of the state's port authority.
"In order for our country to thrive, we need our cities to thrive as well," Kooris said in a statement. "We need a president who will prioritize bolstering our urban centers and making sure that our infrastructure, housing, and economic development doesn't fall by the wayside. Mike Bloomberg's success on all these fronts and plans for the future make him the prime candidate to replace [President] Donald Trump in November."

Kooris was appointed to his role with the DSSD in January following longtime DSSD president Sandy Goldstein's retirement in December. The organizaton represents property owners, companies and residents within the downtown area.
Kooris previously served in leadership roles at the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development and the Department of Housing.

"Representatives Wilson Pheanious and David have been leaders on a number of issues in Connecticut," Brett Broesder, Connecticut State Director for Mike Bloomberg 2020, said in a statement. "We're playing to win and Connecticut will be an important part of our success. We're excited to have Representative Wilson Pheanious and David as part of our talented team."
Earlier this month, campaign volunteers, staff and supporters of Bloomberg spoke with Stamford residents during a volunteer canvassing event in Latham Park on Feb. 9. During the event, volunteers signing people up to get involved with the campaign ahead of Connecticut's primary election on April 28.
Bloomberg, who previously served three terms as mayor of New York City from 2002 to 2013, is one of several Democratic candidates looking to run against Trump in the upcoming election.
According to his campaign website, he is also the founder of Bloomberg LP, which employs over 20,000 people who "share [Bloomberg's] passion for innovation and customer service."
