Stamford Emergency Management Director To Step Down

Mayor Caroline Simmons announced an interim replacement on Thursday.

STAMFORD, CT —Mayor Caroline Simmons on Thursday announced that Stamford Fire Chief Trevor Roach has announced his decision to step down from his role as emergency management director effective July 1.

Roach has served in this capacity since 2016 and will continue serving as Stamford's fire chief.

Simmons also announced that Lou DeRubeis, the city's director of public safety, health and welfare, will serve as interim emergency management director until a permanent successor is named.

"The emergency management director takes a lead role during major incidents in the city of Stamford, and under Chief Roach's tenure, the city has successfully trained, prepared, and weathered numerous emergencies, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic," Simmons said in a news release.

Additionally, Assistant Stamford Fire Chiefs Robert Morris and Mike Robles will continue to serve as deputy emergency management directors for the city.

DeRubeis has added two Stamford police sergeants, Kevin Fitzgibbons and John Vossler, and Stamford Emergency Medical Services Capt. Bill Ackley in order to "create a more collaborative Public Safety Emergency Management working group," a news release from Simmons' office said.

All were sworn in earlier Thursday to the Stamford deputy emergency management director role.
