Stamford FC Makes History with Epic Presidents Cup Regional Tournament Win

The Stamford FC U13 boys premier team won the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup Eastern Regional and will now travel to Tampa, Florida to compete in the National Presidents Cup tournament, July 11-15. This marks the first time a Stamford FC team has won a Presidents Cup regional tournament and qualified for the National Presidents Cup, setting a new standard for success for the Club.

The Stamford FC team comprises families from diverse backgrounds across the city, and the team would be grateful for any support from businesses or individuals. The regional tournament, played in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, from June 13-17, saw the winners of the previous year’s state cups battle it out for the championship, and the right to represent the Eastern Region in the Presidents Cup National event.

“This is a remarkable achievement for Stamford FC. We were up against Select teams and much larger programs and I couldn’t be more proud of how the boys played,” said Coach Jason Segovia, Director, Quality Touch Soccer Academy.” We have been training hard all season and this week was a wonderful reward for all the work they have put in.”

While Select and club teams can draw players from a wide region covering multiple cities, Stamford FC is a local club comprised of only Stamford-based players.

Stamford’s U13 team went undefeated through the regional to lift the Eastern Region Presidents Cup, dominating the group stage. The team kicked off the tournament by easily sweeping aside Acadia Fire FC (Maine) with a top-notch performance, including goals from Daniel Hernandez, Julian Moyano, Nico Segovia, and Toby McMullan.

The second group match saw a much tougher test from Arlington SC (Virginia). Strong performances from Raphael Salgado in goal, defenders Vadym Kobylianski and Adom Bedu-Addo, and goals from Daniel Hernandez, Colin Gross, and two from Julian Moyano, lifted Stamford to a 4-1 victory.

The final group match, against Celtic SC (Pennsylvania), was another outstanding performance, resulting in a 5-1 Stamford win. The team saw outstanding play from Lucas Gonzales, Richard Congiu Jr., Thiago Butron, with goals coming from Kevin Barrera, Max Hase-Bard, and Dylan Hayes.

The semifinal matchup against Phoenixville (Pennsylvania) provided the sternest test yet. Stamford came away with another victory. The 4-1 result came thanks in large part to strong performances from goalkeeper Mason Last, defenders Kenny Alcantara and Giovanni Garrido, and scoring from midfielders and attackers Nico Segovia, Julian Moyano, Toby McMullan and Colin Gross.

The final – a rematch against Arlington (Virginia) – was a tense affair. With high stakes, both sides played a hard-fought match and, at the end, the teams were separated only by a superb free kick from Max Hase-Bard, which gave Stamford FC the 1-0 victory, the Presidents Cup Eastern Region title, and a ticket to the National Presidents Cup.
