Stamford High School Student Fatally Struck by Van Identified: UPDATE
The student was struck by a van near Stamford High School Saturday morning and died later that same day as a result of her injuries.

STAMFORD, CT — The 18-year-old Stamford High School student fatally struck by a van Saturday near the High School has been identified to be Karina Tinajero-Arreguin, according to multiple reports including NBC Connecticut.
The student was attempting to cross Strawberry Hill Avenue from the west to the east when she was struck by the van Saturday morning around 7:30 a.m. The student was reportedly not in a crosswalk.
"This is a tragic situation. No parent should ever have to bury their child. My thoughts and prayers, and those of the entire Stamford community, are with the family of this young woman during this incredibly difficult time," Mayor David Martin said in a statement Saturday.

In a statement, the Stamford Public Schools said Sunday via NBC Connecticut, "On behalf of the entire Stamford Public Schools community we are deeply saddened to learn of this tragic loss of life. Our hearts and prayers go out to our student's family and friends. The district has notified Stamford High School families that we will be providing support to students and staff at Stamford High School tomorrow between 12-2. And extra support staff will be available as needed during the week."
Police are still investigating and no charges have been filed. The driver of the van is cooperating with police, reports state, including WTNH News 8.
