Stamford Hospital Ordered To Pay $12.5 Million In Malpractice Case

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford Hospital has been ordered to pay $12.5 million to the family of a Westport man who died following a surgical procedure on his thigh in 2015, according to the Stamford Advocate.

The Advocate reports that a Superior Court jury on Wednesday found that Dr. Edward Feliciano, an orthopedic surgeon at Stamford Hospital, caused the death of Keith Gilmore, 63, by deviating "from acceptable standards of care.

Gilmore should've been given blood thinners following his one-day surgery in June 2015 at the Stamford Health Tully Center to prevent against blood clots, since he was at high risk for developing them, the lawsuit claimed.

The lawsuit claimed Gilmore developed a blood clot in his leg that traveled to his lung, which resulted in death, the Advocate said.

Stamford Health told Patch Friday they plan to appeal.
