Stamford to Host Hazardous Waste Day and Mattress Recycling
Stamford’s Hazardous Materials Recycling Day on July 13th includes mattress recycling. The Mattress Recycling Council’s Bye Bye Mattress is participating in the event with a container on-site for Stamford residents to drop off – at no charge – their old mattresses and box springs to be recycled.
The collection of mattresses will take place on Saturday, July 13th from 9:00 am- 2:00 pm at Rippowam Middle School located at 381 High Ridge Road in Stamford.
In Connecticut, the country’s first statewide mattress recycling program, more than 1.5 million mattresses and box springs have been recycled and more than 27,000 tons of steel, foam, fibers and wood have been salvaged– saving local towns from paying to ship these materials to out-of-state landfills or losing these valuable resources to incineration. Stamford residents will have the opportunity on July 13th to dispose of their mattress in a sustainable manner.
“The Mattress Recycling Council is excited to be part of the Stamford event on July 13th to help Stamford recycle their mattresses,” stated MRC’s Northeast Program Manager Dan McGowan. “By working collaboratively with the city, Stamford residents will have a convenient way of disposing of their mattresses on Saturday.”
About the Mattress Recycling Council
The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) is a nonprofit organization that operates recycling programs in states that have passed mattress recycling laws: California, Connecticut and Rhode Island. MRC was founded by the bedding industry and recycles nearly 2 million mattresses each year. To inform residents and businesses about the availability and importance of mattress recycling, MRC created a public education campaign branded Bye Bye Mattress.
