Stamford HS Senior Wins Congressional Art Competition
She was selected from among a record 80 entries.
From SPS: Stamford High School (SHS) Senior Ivy Zingone was chosen as the winner of this year’s 4th District Congressional Art Competition hosted by Congressman Jim Himes. Congressman Himes’ office announced the winners and those receiving honorable mentions in a release issued earlier this week. Zingone’s winning artwork, “Counting Screens,” is a graphite and colored pencil drawing featuring a baby in a crib reaching for a mobile of screens.
According to the release, a record number of 80 entries from high school students across the district participated in this year’s competition. An independent panel of artists, including Bridgeport-based artist and storyteller Shanna Melton, Norwalk-based artist, gallery owner and arts educator Rene Soto, and Bridgeport-based mixed media artist Lee Walther, judged the competition.
Zingone, who is a student of SHS Art Teacher Paul Cusano, received two round-trip tickets to attend the competition’s ceremony in Washington, D.C. Her winning art will be on display in the corridor leading to the U.S. Capitol building for the next year.
